When you figure out who your truest friends are going to be in your life, I recommend you find yourself an Amber or someone just like her.
Someone who looks at everything the world has to offer and finds absolute joy and beauty in it. Who creates that joy and beauty herself. Who makes sure, even when she is going through all the things, that YOU know she loves you. She can move away for years. When you finally get to hug her, you pick up like no time passed.
Amber has proven to me over the years… even though she has never had to prove anything… that she is the best friend a girl could hope to have. From the times she's just shown up at the moment I needed her with a message or call, the time I overheard someone saying something unkind about me and she stood up for me, to the time when my husband passed and she would take the time to send me makeup and self care items. She knew that would keep me inspired to get up and paint on my bravest face before I faced the world. When she knew I might be wavering, I’d get another little gift from her to help push me along.
Amber was recently going through some things herself. Despite still not letting on that she really was, I could sense it. I called my mom, asked her to help me on the home front and flew to Oregon on a mission to make sure I made her laugh and give her all the love I possibly could for a few days.
It was also the week of my birthday so we did things we love in the Columbia River Gorge. Soaked in hot springs, sat on the beach for the afternoon while the kids played in the sand, walked on mossy trails and stood barefoot in the streams under mountain waterfalls. We spend the evenings snacking on our dinners that what we called "Mom-cuterie" boards and enjoyed time with her sweet kiddos.
Also.. when you have an Amber, make sure she finds herself an Ethan.
Someone kind, sweet and supportive who does so much for his family. I loved having the opportunity to do their first family portraits at one of their favorite places, Government Cove.
I love you and your whole family. Thank you for trusting me to make memories with you.
